Keep thinking about getting one but have never weighed the van yet,  also load it differently each time we go out and have never noticed any difference.  Maybe I've just been lucky so far.

I was shocked how low ours was when went to tow to Yarmouth the other day.

Had to whack quite a bit at the front to get it to 85kg from 55kg
Thats 2 half full gas bottles, spare wheel, rock pegs, screw pegs and other assorted crap in the front locker as well!

Weighed by the trusty bathroom scales and broom handle method  Grin

Hiya,
I am going to replace the jockey wheel on our van and towsure have a jockey with a gauge built in. Does anybody know if these are any good or are you better buying a seperate unit?

cheers

I think that they are slightly out as they are not on the tow hitch itself but a little further back.

Al - it is a pain when you have a twinnie lol.

I like the idea but have the same doubts regarding accuracy although I must confess i've never weighed a van's nose weight :-o

I don't think they are known for their accuracy sadly - better with a stand alone one.

We had one that went on the tow ball, which in itself is a great idea but in reality was a pain.  It tipped the van back too much and so didn't get a good reading and we couldn't do it anyway with this van as you couldn't tip it back enough to get it hitched.

Think that the scales and a bit of wood or a stick one is best.  Never failed for us!

hiya,
Thanks for the advice, the tread has fallen off my jockey wheel and I thought you had to replace the whole jockey unit. When I went onto the towsure site I noticed the combined jockey and gauge and thought it was a good idea. I will just buy a stand alone gauge and keep the jockey (sorry WVM  Smiley) and order a new wheel. I'd rather not take any chances with accuracy.

cheers

We have a stand alone one which we use every time without fail. Not worth chancing an accident (or wasting fuel) for the sake of a few minutes each time we tow.

After hundreds of towing miles I can't believe i've been so ignorant to checking the weight on the hitch :-o Gonna invest in a gauge... Or a set of bathroom scales and a lengh of wood!
