Any tips you have for erecting an awning, place them here.

Here are mine;

1; make sure the awning rail channel is clean.
2; get all the poles marked with tape before you erect it on site for the 1st time.
3; use a step to stand on when threading the awning through the rail.
4; if its windy or raining, wait til its calm.
5; have a beer/wine/whisky/coffee before and after erection (calms the temper).
6; bite ya tounge when ya wanna swear at your helper!
7; Hammer in all the pegs and storm straps.  Its a long and crap job but it`ll save ya awning from flying away in the wind!
8; If ya having problems, ask someone for help! (offer them a drink for their trouble).

Spray the rail with furniture polish so that the awning glides through easily is my top tip  Grin

Also get other half to do it  Smiley

We have all our poles marked with tape so that we know the order they need to be in as well for the big awning.

You can also get things that go in the rail that act as "stops" so if you are using a porch awning alot, you can leave one in the rail and so get the awning in the right place every time as well which is handy.  Also good if you put it up on your own.
